Many people pride themselves as being ‘immune’ from advertising. But in reality, consumers have become increasingly active participants in the marketing process. Like a shadow, your brand should be ever-present, but not intrude beyond a consumer’s day-to-day activities. Shadow marketing ‘becomes’ part of the everyday. Shadow marketing is the elegant and sublime, subtle, yet unmistakable in its effect. Effective marketing requires patience, creativity and the ability to be ‘in the moment.’ A major component of shadow marketing is uncovering the existence of consumer tribes relevant to your brand. In many cases, we will actually create these tribes. The cult of personality is now the cult of the brand; your brand. Shadow Marketing takes into account the dual nature of the consumer. The yearning to be an individual while at the same time finding happiness and fulfillment as part of a collective. Shadow Propaganda understands the convergence of these two conflicting ideas. The concept of individuality through conformity, while at odds with itself, is a very real and very powerful force that exists within today’s consumer culture. Our strategies appeal directly to the duality of the consumer. Our shadowing techniques need not penetrate these tribal consumer groups because it is our very efforts which in fact create, nurture and facilitate their continued existence.
